Integrative Approaches to ADHD in Adults

This will be an overview for therapists on the approach to ADHD diagnosis and treatment in adults. Would like to provide ample opportunity for questions and open discussion, and will organize the workshop in a stepwise order that mirrors clinical experience. 

Attendees will gain a better understanding of ADHD diagnosis (specifically, the ways other psychiatric symptoms may present similarly and/or complicate evaluation), approach to evaluating degree of functional impairment in core ADHD symptom areas (as well as compensatory coping strategies), and treatment approaches (both pharmacological options as well as behavioral interventions, from an integrative standpoint). 

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe three “core” ADHD symptom categories 
  2. Identify at least three common presenting functional impairments that result from ADHD symptoms 
  3. List at least two common differential diagnoses that can present similarly to ADHD 
  4. Describe at least three treatment options to consider (including pharmacological and non- pharmacological interventions)
