About MCPA

The purpose of the Marin County Psychological Association (MCPA) is to promote human welfare through diffusion and utilization of psychological knowledge. In addition, it is our intention to increase public understanding of psychology as a science and as a profession.

A further goal is to promote and maintain high standards of professional ethics, conduct, education and training of psychologists. Finally, in addition to promoting fellowship among psychologists in Marin County, MCPA and its members seek to cooperate with other professionals and lay organizations in achieving mutual objectives.

Searching for new meaning and exploring life’s possibilities often stems from painful experiences from our past or current situations. I aspire to cultivate a safe environment with my clients so that they may explore new possibilities and develop an enriching curiosity about themselves. Reaching out for help takes strength and courage. I believe that helping my clients identify and sort through their issues while fostering their strengths is the catalyst that brings about the regenerative change they seek.

Living with medical illness can bring stress and suffering on many levels, to the patient and caregivers. I work with my clients, consulting with their medical team as appropriate, to address this suffering in a holistic manner, keeping the client's priorities and definition of quality of life front and center.

We partner together to identify the strengths that you already have, and build on those. And as needed, we introduce new resources, skills and health-promoting practices.

Clients often find that through our work together they find deeper levels of meaning, joy and satisfaction in life. An important part of our work together is zeroing in on what the client hopes for, keeping that goal in our sights, and using it to energize the process.

With a background and therapeutic approach centered in relational psychoanalysis, I work with couples, individual adults, and teens, with a special emphasis on:

 - Couples who are struggling with fixed and repetitive conflict, poor communication, emptiness and boredom, not feeling valued by one another, sexual problems and/or a lack of spontaneity and passion;

 - Helping individuals explore and affirm their core identity and expression, especially those who are transgender or gender expansive / nonconforming (TGNC community);

 - Exploring and understanding parts of the self that hinder one's ability to achieve personal and/or professional goals (i.e. self-sabotage, resistance);

 - Grief and Loss: Providing space to openly process and cope with a recent loss and losses over the lifespan.
