 Dr. Elizabeth McMahon, Ph.D.

Introduction to Virtual Reality: A New Psychotherapy Tool

This is a 2-hour accredited CE live webinar for mental health clinicians interested in how virtual reality (VR) is a new and powerful psychotherapy tool. Composite case examples illustrate key points. Participants will have time for questions and discussion with the presenter.

The webinar will discuss VR’s many clinical uses ranging from helping clients learn and practice self-soothing, relaxation, and mindfulness to helping to confirm diagnoses and uncover fears, provide controlled exposure, and prepare clients for real-world success.

In addition to its applications with anxiety disorders, hear how VR is being used to help treat depression, pain, eating and body image disorders, pain, and ADHD. It provides visual stimuli for EMDR and can enhance quality of life for seniors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • List two therapeutic applications of VR
  • Describe two research findings supporting VR’s impact and benefits as a psychotherapeutic tool
