About this event

Marin County Psychological Association Presents:

Dr. Keith Vallone PhD., PsyD., MSCP

Pharmacogenomics Demystified: A Primer for Clinical Psychologists

This course provides a foundational understanding of pharmacogenomics, a laboratory test ordered by prescribers to identify genetic factors including variations in ethnic subtypes that influence drug absorption, metabolism, and response. Until California psychologists can prescribe, they cannot order or interpret these tests, but they can offer psychoeducation on results provided by medical professionals. Attendees will learn how pharmacogenomics works, its benefits for patients, how to discuss it with patients and prescribers, and how to interpret asample report as a basis for psychoeducation.

Dr. Keith Valone, Ph.D., Psy.D., MSCP, is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Pasadena, California. He holds doctorates in clinical psychology and psychoanalysis, is a certified psychoanalyst, and has a Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology (MSCP). He is a medical staff member and Chair of the Psychiatry Section at Huntington Hospital. He teaches psychopharmacology in the clinical psychology doctoral program as an Adjunct Professor at Alliant International University. A two-time past Chair of CPA Division V, he integrates psychology, contemporary psychoanalysis, and psychopharmacology to treat depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, ADHD, and substance use disorders.
