The S.P.A.C.E. Way –An Overview of the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions Treatment

About this event

Marin County Psychological Association Presents:
Dr. Brandi Marcaletti

The S.P.A.C.E. Way:
An Overview of the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions Treatment Approach

This presentation will provide an overview of the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (S.P.A.C.E.) treatment model. Dr. Marcaletti will review literature on efficacy, describe the principles and goals of the S.P.A.C.E. approach, and outline key concepts and components of the model. In addition, Dr. Marcaletti will summarize some parenting strategies that promote successful implementation and describe common child reactions to the interventions and ways to manage those reactions while sticking to the protocols of S.P.A.C.E. Application of S.P.A.C.E. to more unique populations, including A.R.F.I.D. and “Failure to Launch” young adults, will also be discussed. The presentation will therefore be relevant to clinicians who treat anxious or avoidant youth and young adults, as well as clinicians who work with parents of those populations. Dr. Marcaletti will also present her own outcomes data and identify factors that contribute to successful outcomes. Participants will develop a better understanding of the role of caregivers in the development or maintenance of anxiety and OCD symptoms in children, be able to explain key parenting strategies of the S.P.A.C.E.
